Week 1: From Fashion Newbie to Sketching Flats – The Adventure Begins

Well, it’s officially been a week since I kicked off this blog, and I’ll be honest—daily posts turned out to be harder than I thought! So, to keep things more manageable (and interesting), I’ve decided to switch things up and post weekly updates. That way, I can actually do some fashion stuff instead of just writing about how I should be doing fashion stuff.

So, here’s a recap of how the week’s been treating me.

Today started with an SLE presentation at college, which was...well, let’s just say not the most fashion-forward part of my day. By the time I got home, it was 1 p.m., and I realized it’s been a whole week of diving into this wild, stylish world. So let’s rewind a bit.

On Day 2, I was all about research mode—feeling like a fashion detective, digging deep into brands like Christian Louboutin, LVMH, Fendi, and a bunch more. Each brand had its own vibe, but the real magic happened when I stumbled upon designers like Coco Chanel, Vera Wang, and Virgil Abloh. Their styles just clicked with me, and honestly, I might have a mini obsession with Coco now. Not sorry.

Days 3 and 4 were more of an Instagram and YouTube binge (which I’m totally counting as “work”). I realized this industry is like one giant puzzle. You can teach yourself a lot, but it’s also clear you need some guidance to piece it all together. Lucky for me, I discovered some cool apps like the Vogue Runway app, which makes fashion feel a little less intimidating—more like “hey, maybe I can actually do this.”

Day 6 was a turning point. I finally started learning how to draw flats (which, for those who don’t know, are basically the blueprint for your designs). And today, I found this guy on YouTube, Bliss Foster, who does these super intense runway analyses. I was glued to the screen. He breaks down the meaning behind garments in a way that makes you feel like you're decoding some secret fashion language. It was one of those "Ah-ha!" moments where things just started to make sense.

Fast forward to now—it’s 9 p.m., and I’m writing this post before diving into my first-ever flat sketch. No pressure, right? After that, it’s study mode because, oh yeah, I still have exams coming up (fun). Tomorrow’s my off day, and I’m hyped because it’s going to be all about fashion. I’m planning to finish up my website and hopefully publish some of my work. Big goals, but hey, we’re going for it.

So here we are, a week in, and I can feel things coming together slowly. Third time’s the charm, right? Stay tuned, because next week, I’ll (hopefully) have some finished projects to share!
